As Paul and Marjan get their gear ready to be lowered down, a crowd has formed and a guy recognizes Marjan as FireFox. A truck is over the bridge, hanging by the chain that’s attached to a boat. “Owen Strand, you are under arrest for criminal trespass, reckless destruction of property, aggravated assault, and arson.”Ī week earlier, with Owen out of commission due to his recovery, Captain Judd Ryder and the 126 make their way to a call on a bridge. However, when they take off the hood, it’s Owen. Multiple police cars drive up to a single man wearing a hoodie, and some officers take him down. As the Rangers and officers get in their cars, Gabriel says that this man is a dangerous sociopath who will do anything to avoid capture. “And he’s done it all while hiding in plain sight.” He thinks he’s smarter than them, and for too long he’s been right. He’s burned, maimed, and killed innocent people. “I don’t need to tell you how ruthless our suspect is.” Gabriel says that he’s a public menace responsible for tens of millions of dollars in property damage. As soon as Raymond is caught, he basically turns into the Riddler crossed with Firefly, insisting he’s smarter than everyone else and that he has more fires set, and “The Big Heat” itself begins to resemble a different show entirely, especially once Raymond dramatically immolates himself.Gabriel Reyes is telling his fellow Rangers that today is a very big day. and Carlos are going to be furious, as is Judd, who confronted Billy and socked him in the mouth for his betrayal. They’ve also kept everyone in the dark, which means that T.K. See, as it turns out, Raymond is the arsonist, and Strand, Billy, and Gabriel have been working together to set him up. Which, of course, is the real twist of 9-1-1: Lone Star season 2, episode 12. This storyline only works because of Raymond, really, since it’s so blatantly obvious that Strand is being set up that anyone who doesn’t at least consider the possibility comes across as being deliberately antagonistic. He also makes it clear that he thinks Gabriel might be taking issue with Strand because of Carlos’s relationship with T.K., which at the very least he should have disclosed. Luckily, Investigator Dennis Raymond (Todd Stashwick) is on Strand’s side or at least seems to be, so he approaches Strand off the record and tries to dig up some more concrete information that’ll lead directly to Billy. It’s easy to see T.K.’s point of view here, but after Gabriel lays out all his accumulated evidence to Strand - including Strand buying supplies from a hardware store and his “little arsonist workshop” at his house - it’s easy to see Carlos’s perspective, too.Īnd this is a big deal since the case now doesn’t just involve arson but murder. and Carlos, who almost come to blows in defense of their respective fathers. And that leads to a pretty clear rift between T.K. This leads to Strand being arrested by Gabriel, which you’ll recall from the previous episode. Coincidence? Strand immediately takes this information to Judd, who is reluctant to believe it, but Grace thinks he should report it anyway - which is perhaps a good idea since we immediately see Tyson fitting Strand up as the perpetrator with photos he just so happened to take during his “rescue” of the captain. Anyone who has been recently laid off or injured fits the profile. wanted, he reveals that he believes the serial arsonist theory and also believes that a firefighter is the culprit. When Strand finally arrives at dinner with the limes T.K.
